Detroit Titan Alum/ Former Tigers Executive Pens Science Fiction Book, Become the Machine Now Availa

3010: Become the Machine, a science fiction book written by native Detroiter, Herman Jenkins was recently released in E-book format and paperback on multiple digital platforms including Amazon.com and Google Books.

3010: Become the Machine is the story of Jason Joshua who faces difficult choices while navigating the negative temptations of being a star high school athlete. Jason’s dreams of playing in college are gunned down in a pick-up basketball game. Jason is then transformed and led on a journey into a future world where sport is no more and virtual gaming reigns.

"Herman Jenkins is a mastermind! 3010: Become the Machine will take you on an emotional, futuristic journey. This well written, authentic, high quality story is real and creatively illustrated,” said Marcus Ray, BTN Network / ESPN Analyst. “The characters are well developed and the plot is engaging and relative. My life would be completely different if artificially intelligent virtual gaming replaced sport. I give this book all of 5/5 stars!"

“Electronic Gaming has changed sports forever,” Jenkins said. “How we all reconcile this reality is up to us. 3010: Become the Machine explores this dynamic.”

I was hooked on Jason’s journey from the very beginning,” said Rob Parker, Fox Sports “I couldn’t wait to see how it would end.”

“What an amazing and unique world for adolescent readers to explore,” said Dr. Kari Krantz, PhD, an Education Consultant and a former Lansing area school district superintendent. “The ethnic tone and futuristic fantasy world, coupled with characters who are complex yet easy to relate to will resonate strongly with this age group.”

A serial entrepreneur, Jenkins is a digital content producer and Co-owner of The Collective, a business incubator housed in a repurposed Tudor mansion in Detroit’s Historic Indian Village. An All State student athlete at U of D Jesuit High School, Jenkins became a standout player for the Detroit Titans basketball program under Head Coach Perry Watson. Although a holdover recruit from the Coach Ricky Byrdsong era, as a freshman, Jenkins helped lead the Titans to the 1994 MCC Conference Tournament Championship, its first in well over a decade at that time. Jenkins worked in the Detroit Tigers front office in Community Relations, and was eventually named club’s Manager, Strategic Planning. Jenkins also taught Diversity & Culture in Sports at Wayne State University as an adjunct professor. It has long been Jenkins’ desire to share his experiences in sports with youth in a fun and exciting way.

“Like Sun Ra, Samuel Delaney, Octavia Butler, and Alice Coltrane taught us, we have to write ourselves into the future,” says Filmmaker/Journalist Dream Hampton “We have to write the future. 3010 is about so much more than a game. It is a Black future. It is a tool for kids to shape and imagine a new world.”

“Sport was a key underpinning of my development as a youth. A lot kids growing up today are no different than me. Their world is different. The very definition of sport has evolved.” Jenkins said. “I just want to share my experience in sport with young people, and, perhaps, through Jason’s story in 3010: Become the Machine, I can make a genuine connection.“
